Frequently asked questions
Straight answers we hear often in the shop. If you don’t see your question, call (250) 368-7663.
How long will it take to complete the repairs?
Many repairs are completed the same day. If we expect a longer turnaround, we’ll tell you up front and keep you updated.
How much will it cost?
You receive a written estimate before we begin repair work. Our door rate is comparable to other independent shops in the region.
My car is running rough. Do I need a tune-up?
Rough running can come from several causes — sometimes a throttle body service, sometimes ignition or fuel issues, sometimes a tune-up. A technician needs to assess the vehicle to pinpoint the cause.
Is there a charge to check out my car?
Yes. There is a minimum diagnostic charge of $60, which includes 30 minutes of technician time. If more time is required, we’ll let you know before proceeding.
Do I need an appointment for a repair?
Appointments are preferred. Call us — we may have an opening to look at your vehicle the same day.
What credit cards do you take?
We use Square and accept most major credit cards.
Why does my car need maintenance if it’s running fine?
Regular maintenance protects your investment, reduces the chance of breakdowns, and often saves money compared with deferred service.
What if I don’t have the repairs done right now?
We’ll explain what needs immediate attention and what can wait, so you can make an informed decision.
What should I do when my check engine light comes on?
First, check that your gas cap is tight. If the light stays on, call us — we can connect a scan tool and perform a full diagnostic check.
How often should I have my brakes checked?
The Kootenays have a lot of hills; brakes wear faster here. We recommend a brake check with every service.
What type of oil filter do I need?
When you book service with us we supply a premium aftermarket oil filter. You can request a factory filter for an additional cost.
Do I really need winter tires?
Yes — winter tires provide better cold-weather traction and braking than all-season tires in winter conditions.
